ENTREPRENEUR and Cooperatives Development Minister Steven Sim recently stepped in to help Uncle Robert, a familiar face among Penangites, raise RM100,000 to help cover his wife's cancer treatment costs.
In a Facebook post, Sim said he learnt of Uncle Robert's plight and how he was trying to raise funds for his wife's treatment.
Uncle Robert has been busking in Gurney for years and is familiar among locals there.
"I immediately asked my team to organise a mini concert at the Jit Sin Independent High School in just four days.

"With the help of kind Malaysians, we raised RM46,000 while I topped up the rest," he said.
Sim thanked everyone who attended the concert and contributed to Uncle Robert.
“Whether he has an audience of a thousand or just one person, Uncle Robert continues to play for the same person – the wife he loves.
"The sacrifice of a husband can be immense," he said.

"Watching Uncle Robert smile throughout the concert, it's hard for us to imagine the challenges in his life. That's the Uncle Robert we know in Gurney.
"He always smiles and entertains us, even when we're going through tough times. I pray that his wife’s treatment goes smoothly. Keep entertaining us with your music and your love, Uncle. Keep busking, Uncle Robert!” - September 11, 2026
