199 flood victims at Melaka relief centres

MELAKA – The number of flood victims at three evacuation centres in Melaka remains at 199 people from 48 families as of 8am today.

Melaka Malaysian Civil Defence Force (APM) director Lt Kol (PA) Effendy Ali said the victims are from Kg Tehel and Kg Parit Gantong in Jasin, as well as  Kg Bukit Tambun, Kg Bukit Balai, Kg Pulau and Kg Belimbing in Alor Gajah.

In Jasin, he said 121 people from 29 families were placed at SK Tehel, while 62 people from 16 families took shelter at SK Parit Gantong.

“In Alor Gajah, the evacuation centre at SK Durian Tunggal houses 13 victims from three families,” he said in a statement.

The weather in the state is reported to be fine.

According to Effendy, who is also state Disaster Management Committee Secretariat head, the water level in Sg Duyong in Jasin is rising, while Sg Durian Tunggal in Alor Gajah is receding. – Bernama, November 25, 2020
