KOTA KINABALU – Five dilapidated primary schools in Kota Belud, Sabah will be rebuilt with an allocation of RM77.4 million next year.
Deputy Education Minister Muslimin Yahya (Bersatu-Sg Besar) said the allocation is part of the RM725 million made for the purpose under Budget 2021.
He said RM25.5 million will be made out to SK Kuala Abai, to SK Pulau Mantanani (RM14.6 million), SK Tengkurus (RM12.9 million), SK Kelawat (RM11.6 million) and to SK Tegusun (RM12.8 million).
“However, the total replacement of these schools will depend on the financial position of the federal government.
“These are the five schools that will be totally replaced under the first rolling plan under the 12th Malaysia Plan,” he said in response to a question posed by Isnairrasah Munirah Majilis (Warisan-Kota Belud) in the Dewan Rakyat today.
Muslimin said the Education Ministry has identified 22 dilapidated schools in Kota Belud.
Five schools have been declared unsafe by the Public Works Department and 17 schools have been declared unsafe by the state Education Department.
On ongoing upgrades, Muslimin said RM91.1 million has been allocated for schools in the district.
He said nine schools have been completed, namely, SK Kiau 1 , SK Timbang, SK Kepasang, SK Lasau Tintapon, Taburan, SK rampaian, SK Taun Gusi, SK Saung Unggur and SK Tampasuk 1.
Five projects under construction are SK Tampasuk II, SK Sayap, SK Pituru, SK Gunsurai and SK Trintidung.
SK Sarang, SK ambong, SK Podos, SK Ulu Kukut and SK Nahaba are in the acquisition process, with the letters of consent to be delivered next month.
Muslimin said SK Gudar, which was recently approved for upgrade recently, is currently in the design stage.
Earlier, Rural and Regional Development Minister Datuk Alexander Nanta Linggi said electricity supply coverage in rural Sabah (BELB) has reached 96.96%, or 366,013 homes, of the 380,106 targeted homes by the end of the 11th Malaysia Plan (11MP).
Meanwhile, treated water supply reached 79%, or 11,579 homes (BALB) targeted, 462.24km of road was built (JALB) under the same plan, he said.
“Based on the study under the ministry, RM4.8 billion was allocated under the 11MP and saw 11,579 homes receive treated water supply, 14,702 electricity and 462.24 km roads completed,” he said. – The Vibes, November 25, 2020
