KUALA LUMPUR – The needs of persons with disabilities (PwD) are significantly addressed in next year’s budget, with a total of RM1.2 billion allocated to the group through allowances and healthcare benefits.

In tabling the Supply Bill 2023 in Parliament this afternoon, Finance Minister Datuk Seri Tengku Zafrul Tengku Abdul Aziz said this includes care for chronic patients as well as allowances for PwDs who are unable to work.

To enable the community to move and travel more conveniently, he said, the government has allocated RM10 billion in the form of travel vouchers through e-hailing services.

In addition, RM20 million has been allocated to improve facilities and tools needed at special educational needs schools.

“The government will also be preparing a special incentive to give parents the opportunity to send their disabled children to a safe childcare centre when they are working.

“We will establish fifty new pre-schools for disabled children compared with the existing 13,” he added. – The Vibes, October 7, 2022
