KUALA LUMPUR – Tambun MP Datuk Seri Ahmad Faizal Azumu insisted that he is not afraid to face Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim if the Pakatan Harapan (PH) chairman contests for the seat in the 15th general election (GE15).

Faizal, who is also Bersatu deputy president, said that he is still ready to defend the parliamentary seat even when he has to face Anwar or whoever the opposition party nominates.

The youth and sports minister insisted that he accepted any possibility of Anwar being nominated for the seat he currently holds with an open heart.

“He (Anwar) is eligible to compete in Tambun.

“I will continue to promote the democratic process,” he said briefly to Getaran, The Vibes’ sister portal, today.

Last August, Faizal hinted that he would defend the seat in GE15.

Yesterday, PH informed that the decision to have Anwar run for the Tambun seat will be announced at the coalition’s national convention, scheduled to take place in Perak on October 29.

However, Perak PH chairman, Datuk Seri Mujahid Yusof Rawa said that his party highly welcomes Anwar to run for the seat in question, as the PKR president’s character adds value to the alliance in the state.

“We have been informed that, and as the chairman of Perak PH, I very much welcome him to run for that seat in GE15.

“His candidacy will bring great honour to us in Perak…even his character will benefit PH in this state,” he told reporters after attending the Harapan Perak Bangkit gathering at the Tg Piandang night market last night.

Last August, Anwar, who is also Port Dickson MP, said he was considering an offer made by Perak PKR to contest in the state in GE15.

Anwar also said that he plans to run for the seat held by PKR and PH “traitors” in the next general election.

While he did not specify the parliamentary constituency, the seat, he had said, must be advantageous for PKR and PH.

“Honestly, I don’t have other options (in Parliament) to compete with, but in consideration it is the (PKR and PH) traitor’s seat…if the party says to contest in Gombak (Parliament), I will contest there.

“We (PH) can enter Umno’s fortress, but I have to choose the seat held by a traitor. The message is that betrayal in politics (is unacceptable), he added.” – The Vibes, October 9, 2022
