KUALA LUMPUR – Yang di-Pertuan Agong Al-Sultan Abdullah Ri’ayatuddin Al-Mustafa Billah has expressed his gratitude to federal lawmakers after the Budget 2021 was passed at the policy stage today.
In a statement today, Comptroller of the Royal Household Datuk Ahmad Fadil Shamsuddin said the Agong thanked MPs for heeding his decree on October 28 to support the budget in the interest of the people’s welfare and safety, amid the Covid-19 pandemic.
“Apart from ensuring economic recovery and the people’s survival, the Budget 2021 is extremely important for the government and authorities, particularly the frontliners, in containing and addressing the pandemic.
“As the head of state, the Agong really respects every political party in the country and the role and responsibility of each member of Parliament.”
Ahmad Fadil said the Agong appreciated the commitment and the spirit of togetherness shown by every quarter, adding that this is pertinent to maintain the government’s momentum in restoring the economy.
“The Agong is fully confident with the government’s ability to lead the country at this trying time.”
Earlier today, the Budget 2021 at the policy stage was passed via a simple voice vote.
Attempts by several opposition MPs to call for a physical vote, which requires the support of at least 15 representatives, failed with only 13 MPs from Amanah and Pejuang in support. - The Vibes, November 26, 2020
