KUALA LUMPUR – The Dewan Rakyat sitting has been extended by another two days, making its total duration 29 days, to end on December 17.

According to a letter from the Dewan Rakyat secretary’s office, the amendment is in line with Standing Order 11(2).

Based on the regulation, the head or deputy head of the House can change the stipulated dates from time to time.

The Dewan Rakyat sitting was initially scheduled to end on December 15 with the Budget 2021 debate session at the committee level.

According to the letter, the additional two days are allocated for the tabling of bills and other government business.

An amendment has also been made to the calendar of the Dewan Negara, which will convene from December 16 to 23, instead of the original dates of December 14 to 23.

According to a letter from the Dewan Negara secretary’s office to senators, the period was fixed by Prime Minister Tan Sri Muhyiddin Yassin via a letter dated November 11 to the Dewan Negara president.

This is in line with Standing Orders 10(2) and 14(2), whereby based on Standing Order 10(2), the fixing of the dates of a sitting must be made by the head or deputy of the House at least 28 days before the start of every term.

Standing Order 14(2) states that government business must be set in such order as the government thinks fit, and informed to the secretary. – Bernama, November 28, 2020
