KUANTAN – Pahang Bersatu hopes that Umno will take heed of Tan Sri Muhyiddin Yassin’s call for Malay-Muslim leaders to form a large coalition ahead of the 15th general election.

Its secretary, Datuk Saifuddin Abdullah, said the best way to win the polls is to set up an alliance involving Bersatu, PAS and Umno.

“Bersatu and PAS are already officially in Perikatan Nasional... though Umno is not yet officially in, they are part of the PN government.

In his speech, the (party) president (Muhyiddin), without hesitation and rhetoric, said the best way to face GE15 is to form a coalition of Malay parties.

“I hope the call will be accepted by Umno president Datuk Seri Ahmad Zahid Hamidi,” he told reporters here today.

He said an amendment to the Bersatu constitution to allow non-Malays and non-Muslims to become associate members has “changed the party’s DNA”.

"Although we are a Malay-Muslim party, we still respect and recognise other religions, and as a Malay-Muslim party, we do accept non-Muslims as members.” – Bernama, November 28, 2020
