GEORGE TOWN – A toddler here was trapped in a car this afternoon, having been left in the vehicle on his own.

In the 12.50pm incident in Taman Terubong Indah, Ayer Itam, here, the boy, aged 1 year and 4 months, was left in a Proton Saga, which had its engine running, at the parking lot in front of a laundrette.

He pressed a knob on the door on the driver’s side, locking the vehicle.

According to a Fire and Rescue Department spokesman, the child unlocked the car after being coaxed by his father for half an hour.

“At first, we wanted to break the windshield, but when we saw the child, he hid.

“So, his father tried to persuade him. After almost half an hour, he succeeded.”

It is understood that both the child’s parents left him in the car while they did laundry.

It is the second incident of a child being locked in a car in Penang in less than two weeks. The first incident occurred in Nibong Tebal on November 20. – The Vibes, November 29, 2020
