JOHOR BARU – One woman died soon after voting and another just before casting her ballot in two separate incidents at polling centres here and in Kluang, today.
In the first incident, Juhara Syed Mohamad, 57, died soon after casting her vote at SMK Sultan Ismail here, around 9.30am.
It was believed that the victim had experienced shortness of breath before succumbing to her death.
“The woman was not feeling well when she came to the polling station,” the Election Commission (EC) said in a statement today, adding that despite her condition, she insisted on carrying on and casting her vote.
Meanwhile, the EC identified the second victim as Tuminah Ambiah, 85, who passed away before she could vote at SJK (C) Lit Terk in Paloh, Kluang around 10.30am.
“The deceased was yet to cast her vote when she suddenly collapsed. Health Ministry staff at the scene confirmed her death after an ambulance arrived,” the EC said.
In confirming the incidents, Johor police chief Datuk Kamarul Zaman Mamat said both bodies had been sent to hospitals for post mortems. – The Vibes, November 19, 2022
