Johor police nab Iraqi suspected of beating man with iron rod

JOHOR BARU – Police have detained an Iraqi national believed to have beaten a local man with an iron rod in Jalan Tebrau here on Friday night.

Johor Baru Selatan district police chief Mohd Padzli Mohd Zain, in a statement last night, said the 41-year-old suspect, who was previously thought to be Bangladeshi, was arrested about 7.20pm in Taman Sri Tebrau following a public tip-off.

“The suspect, who did not have documents on him, said he is Iraqi.”

He said police seized an iron rod believed to have been used in the incident.

Padzil, in a statement on Saturday, said police were looking for a Bangladeshi man in his 30s, in relation to the case.

The victim, 39, sustained injuries to the head, legs and other parts of the body, and was sent to Sultanah Aminah Hospital.

A video of the incident has gone viral online. – Bernama, November 30, 2020
