KUALA LUMPUR – International Trade and Industry Minister Datuk Seri Tengku Zafrul Abdul Aziz is one of three prominent politicians expected to be called up by the Malaysian Anti-Corruption Commission (MACC) to assist in the probe into the allegedly misappropriated RM600 billion government funds.

The other two are Perikatan Nasional chairman Tan Sri Muhyiddin Yassin and former health minister Khairy Jamaluddin, said sources.

The probe relates to the alleged misappropriation of RM600 billion by the Muhyiddin government, especially when the country was facing the Covid-19 pandemic.

Zafrul was the finance minister during the Muhyiddin administration and continued in the same role in Datuk Seri Ismail Sabri Yaakob’s government.

Under Muhyiddin, Khairy was the science and technology minister. He was later appointed by Ismail Sabri as health minister in August last year.

This was first reported by Datuk Ahirudin Attan, popularly known as RockyBru, in his blog.

Yesterday, MACC confirmed to Bernama that the anti-graft body had opened an investigation paper on the alleged misappropriation of RM600 billion by the previous government.

MACC chief commissioner Tan Sri Azam Baki confirmed the matter but declined to reveal more details on the investigation.

The controversy over the usage of emergency funds totalling more than RM600 billion when the country was facing the Covid-19 pandemic had been raised by former Melaka chief minister Adly Zahari on November 15.

On Monday, Prime Minister Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim said he would leave it to the investigative body to look into the aforementioned alleged misappropriation.

According to Anwar, the Finance Ministry had confirmed serious procedural breaches involving the funds.

Muhyiddin was on Monday reported as saying that he is not afraid to be investigated over the controversy. – The Vibes, December 7, 2022
