KUALA LUMPUR – Keretapi Tanah Melayu Bhd (KTMB) has reappointed Mohd Rani Hisham Samsudin as its chief executive, effective today, reported Bernama.
KTMB chairman Datuk Rameli Musa, in a statement, said Rani Hisham, 58, replaces Datuk Kamarulzaman Zainal, who ended his service yesterday after being in the post for more than a year.
He said Rani Hisham previously headed the national railway company from 2017 to last year.
“The appointment of the new CEO comes with challenges, at a time the company is facing a significant drop in passenger volume due to the Covid-19 pandemic.
“He will have to ensure that the company’s future development plans are implemented immediately, in line with the current scenario, including the agenda of operational and asset payments, strengthening the organisational structure and management, and optimising its corporate values as the country’s main rail transport provider.”
Rani Hisham holds a degree in business management from University of Northrop, California, and has more than 34 years’ experience in logistics, public transport and cargo management.
Apart from working with transport and logistics firms in the US, he was also with local companies including Pos Aviation Sdn Bhd, Senai Airport Terminal Services Sdn Bhd, MISC Trucking and Warehousing Sdn Bhd, DHL Global Forwarding and Sime Darby Bhd.
Prior to the latest appointment, Rani Hisham was chief executive of Kontena Nasional Bhd, a post he held since October last year.
The Vibes on November 23 reported that the Railwaymen’s Union of Malaya objected to the reappointment, citing tense relations when Rani Hisham helmed the company. – The Vibes, December 1, 2020
