KOTA KINABALU – No campsites have been closed in Sabah so far despite the bad weather, said state Local Government and Housing Minister Datuk Seri Masidi Manjun.
Masidi said he has not received any instructions to do so following the landslide tragedy near the Father’s Organic Farm campsite in Gohtong Jaya, Batang Kali, early yesterday morning.
This follows Deputy Prime Minister cum Central Disaster Management Committee chairman Datuk Seri Zahid Hamidi saying yesterday that he would mobilise all enforcement authorities to observe the situation around the nation.
“We have always been careful in Sabah in choosing campsites, in view of the hilly terrain and the frequent landslides whenever it rains,” Masidi told The Vibes, today.
Yesterday, Zahid said the Fire and Rescue Department and police nationwide have been instructed to inspect the situations at campsites around the country.
“They have been instructed to monitor the situation from time to time… they will update the public with the latest developments,” he said. – The Vibes, December 17, 2022
