BUKIT MERTAJAM – The Seberang Prai City Council (MBSP) has ordered the management of Suling Hill in Penanti here to stop campsite activities immediately due to the risks involved during the current rainy period.

In a statement today, MBSP said following the instructions issued by the Local Government Development Ministry regarding the temporary closure of at-risk campsites, the city council conducted a survey of such sites throughout Seberang Prai.

“The survey found that there are two camping sites in Seberang Prai, namely in Kg Agong, Penaga in Seberang Prai Utara district near here and Suling Hill in Penanti,” read the statement.

It said that of the two campsites, only the one at Suling Hill was at risk due to being near a slope and MBSP had issued a notice to stop the activities there with immediate effect.

MBSP said that following yesterday’s landslide at the campsite at Father’s Organic Farm, Gohtong Jaya in Batang Kali, Selangor, residents of Seberang Prai were reminded not to hold any leisure activities around areas that were at risk of natural disasters.

“The notice follows as it is already known that the Meteorological Department had issued a warning yesterday regarding thunderstorms, heavy rain, and strong winds that are expected to continue until December 20,” read the statement. – Bernama, December 17, 2022
