KUALA LUMPUR – Datuk Seri Takiyuddin Hassan (Kota Baru-PN) chided government lawmakers for not asking a bloc vote over the motion of confidence on Prime Minister Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim, which was passed via a simple voice vote today.

In a press conference along with other senior Perikatan Nasional (PN) members today, Takiyuddin said Anwar’s exact numbers in Parliament remain unknown.

When asked why the opposition lawmakers did not ask for a bloc vote, Takiyuddin explained that it was not PN’s responsibility to do so.

“We did not ask because we are not voting on it but they didn’t ask either. We do not know why they didn’t ask. Case closed and no numbers from this motion,” he said.

The motion of confidence on Anwar’s leadership today was tabled by Deputy Prime Minister Datuk Seri Fadillah Yusof, who noted that the unity government formed today is one suggested by the king.

Today, PN lawmakers, including Takiyuddin, questioned the need for the motion, with many of them calling it unnecessary.

However, government lawmakers applauded the move, stating it was important to prove Anwar’s legitimacy.

Takiyuddin was also very vocal against the memorandum of understanding (MoU) signed with all major parties in the unity government to secure the administration’s stability.

The Kota Baru MP alleged that the MoU was unconstitutional and affects the rights and exclusivity of MPs, especially in their right to make decisions as lawmakers. – The Vibes, December 19, 2022
