KEPALA BATAS – The Bertam Souk and Water Park here has received a licence from the Seberang Prai City Council to resume operations as usual.

The theme park was ordered to close on December 28 after the city council issued a notice to its management to stop all entertainment activities at the water theme park under the Entertainment and Places of Entertainment Enactment 1998.

It said the water park’s application for a licence was approved yesterday.

“The premises licence and entertainment licence for the water theme park was approved on January 6 that is the same day it (theme park) received the Certificate of Completion and Compliance.

“The city council hopes that the reopening of the theme park will benefit visitors and it will become a new tourist attraction in the Seberang Prai area,” it said in a statement today.

Previously, the Seberang Prai city council said it had conducted inspections several times from December 16 to 27 at the theme park.

It had found that the theme park was operating without a licence and issued a notice for the management to stop all activities there.

However, the management failed to comply with the directive, resulting in the closure action being taken at about 9.40 am on December 28.

The RM90 million theme park, which began operations on December 15 on an over 8ha site, is owned by The Maritime Waterfront Suites Sdn Bhd.

It was previously reported that the project was delayed for more than three years due to several problems, including the Covid-19 pandemic. – Bernama, January 7, 2023
