JAKARTA – When Malaysia’s 10th Prime Minister Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim was sworn in on November 24 last year, one would not expect that the audio clip would go viral on TikTok Indonesia and some parts of Malaysia, but apparently it did.

The Tambun MP’s low-toned, deep, bassy voice captured the attention of Indonesian TikTok user @nabileus, who asked why Anwar he sounds so handsome (“kenapa suara bapak tampan sekali”) in a video posted on December 15 last year.

“This is the first time I’m addicted to hearing someone taking an oath (‘baru kali ini candu dengarin orang bersumpah’),” said @nabileus, who received 3.5 million views, 496 comments, 395,300 likes, and 511 shares.

In the video, the beautiful lass is seen swooning and lip syncing to the first sentence of the oath, where the prime minister said: “Saya, Anwar bin Ibrahim, setelah dilantik memegang jawatan sebagai perdana menteri, dengan sesungguhnya bersumpah bahawa saya…”

Some commenters on @nabileus’ post said that they even listen to the clip to lull themselves to sleep.

Another user, @1fruitsando, had also posted a video on November 30 last year of herself listening to the same phrase while sipping a fruit drink, before smiling in pleasure at the sound of Anwar’s voice.

@1fruitsando’s video hit 346,000 views, 35,200 likes, 642 shares and 192 comments.

Meanwhile, @mr.peachfuzz paired the audio clip with a scene from the movie American Psycho of actor Christian Bale’s character Patrick Bateman, to show how he feels whenever he hears Anwar taking the oath.

He received 317,900 views, 44,200 likes, and 270 comments, and the video was shared 1,358 times.

Among the more amusing comments posted on @mr.peachfuzz’s video include user @goodgirl, who said: “Ddy sorry? Ddy? (Daddy, sorry? Daddy), while user @Dani described his voice as “majestic”. – The Vibes, January 8, 2022
