KUALA LUMPUR – The alleged lack of care for stray, rescued and abandoned dogs by the local government came to light after several images and videos recently surfaced, showing the terrible condition of the canines at the Kuala Langat Municipal Council’s dog pound.
The video, which has since gone viral, was recorded by a woman who went to the council to search for her lost dog.
In the video, the unidentified woman was horrified at the condition of the dogs, as they were severely malnourished and were not properly cared for.
Some of the canines are presumably sick due to the lack of food and proper care from council handlers.
“They just threw the food, and it landed on the dogs’ bodies. See how they (the dogs) are struggling,” said the woman in the video.
The woman also pleaded to the public to get the “beautiful souls” out of the pound and called for the municipal council to take care of the dogs properly.
“If you don’t want them to suffer, please put them to sleep instead, not let them suffer here without food like this,” said the woman.

The video was spread on multiple social media platforms and has since received an outpouring of support from netizens nationwide.
Through comments across the social media thread, several netizens started reaching out to many NGOs in hopes of getting some help to get the dogs to a safer environment.
According to the municipal council, all 94 dogs have been rescued and were sent to a temple shelter in Johor by compassionate rescuers.
Speaking to The Vibes, Malaysian Dogs Deserve Better founder Wani Muthiah said the latest incident is not a remote one, as local council dog pounds in the country have a terrible reputation for alleged mistreatment of dogs.
Based on the video, she also noted that the dogs were in very poor condition, with many not expected to live long.
“We genuinely hope that these dogs get the proper treatment they need and are soon adopted by loving families,” she added. – The Vibes, January 13, 2023
