GEORGE TOWN – A 34-year-old man breathed a sigh of relief when his calls for help were heard after falling off the Penang Bridge along the island-bound lane at around 3pm here today.
A state Fire and Rescue Department spokesperson confirmed the incident, saying that the man reportedly fell into the sea off the bridge but the low tide had probably prevented any unfortunate incidents from happening.
“We hoisted down a rope and rescued the individual. He was given first aid treatment and found to be okay,” the official said.
The police then called him in for further investigation.
The video of the incident circulated on the internet showed the man, hailing from Butterworth, shouting for help after his apparent fall while standing in the water during low tide.
According to the Tide Forecast portal, there was a low tide measured at only 0.88m at about 3.30pm today. – The Vibes, January 31, 2023
