IPOH – Perak Menteri Besar Datuk Seri Ahmad Faizal Azumu will not propose the dissolution of the state assembly to Sultan Nazrin Muizzuddin Shah despite having lost reps’ confidence.

The Chenderiang assemblyman said he accepts the result of the vote this morning, and that he will not propose a dissolution amid the Covid-19 crisis.

“Of course, when I have an audience with the sultan, I can propose for the state assembly to be dissolved, but do we want that? No way, the current situation is not conducive for an election (to be called). So, what should I do?

“I have to be a nice person, keep quiet, and give my support to the person chosen by the sultan to be the next menteri besar, in the best interest of the people.

“I’m just an ordinary leader, who, when entrusted with responsibilities, tried to do my level best, and when the time comes, like today, will just let it go nicely.

“I hope everyone can accept this. It’s not about us, it’s about serving the people,” he told a press conference here.

Faizal thanked the 10 assemblymen who voted in his favour.

“There are many others who support me, but have to follow their parties’ decision. They personally came to see me (after the vote) and told me that they were not happy, but what is done cannot be undone.

“After all, this is politics, it can happen to anyone.”

He expressed hope that today’s events will not be “dragged” into the Dewan Rakyat or other states.

“Don’t play too much politics. Give support to the ruling government, let them do their work until the next election, which I don’t think is going to be too far away. We’ll contest again and let the people decide.”

Upset at not being able to table the state’s 2021 budget, he said he hopes the new menteri besar will be appointed before Wednesday, for Perak folk’s sake. – Bernama, December 4, 2020
