KOTA KINABALU – Petagas assemblyman Awang Ahmad Sah Awang Sahari has left Warisan after three party members did the same barely two weeks ago.
Awang, who is also Warisan treasurer, explained that he could not provide more to his constituents if he had stayed in the opposition.
Nearly two weeks ago, Warisan saw the departure of Mohammad Mohamarin (Banggi), Ben Chong (Tg Kapor) and Norazlinah Arif (Kunak).
Awang is also expected to join the ruling Gagasan Rakyat Sabah led by Sabah Chief Minister Datuk Seri Hajiji Mohd Noor.
Previously, the trio had expressed their intentions of joining the state ruling party.
Awang is the 10th assemblyman who quit Warisan since the state election on September 26, 2020.
“I have been thinking about this for three months and consulted with the grassroots leaders from my division (Putatan).
“After giving it much thought, I no longer have any doubts in my intention to leave Warisan to join Gagasan Rakyat.
“I have met with Hajiji twice, with the last meeting held Friday last week, and I have concluded, I agree with all the proposed (development) plans Hajiji had for Sabah,” he said, revealing his decision was driven due to his commitment to bring about development to his constituents.
He also included in his announcement that he will come up with a pilot flood mitigation project in three villages in Putatan, adding that he has instructed several contractors to carry out a study on this project.
Awang also thanked Warisan president Datuk Seri Mohd Shafie Apdal for giving him the opportunity to contest in Petagas, adding that he does not wish to make any political enemies. – The Vibes, February 27, 2023
