KUALA LUMPUR – Umno’s first choice in forming a new government in Perak will still be with Perikatan Nasional members PAS and Bersatu, as well as other independent assemblymen, said Umno secretary-general Datuk Seri Ahmad Maslan today.

Despite Pakatan Harapan’s (PH) willingness to work with Umno to end the menteri besar crisis, Ahmad said the alternatives are not the primary or sole option for his party.

“The leadership of all parties will surely make the best choice for the state, people and country,” Ahmad said in a tweet today.

Ahmad’s tweet comes after PH parties PKR, DAP, and Amanah signalled that they are willing to work with nemesis Umno to end the political imbroglio in the state.

His own boss, party president Datuk Seri Ahmad Zahid Hamidi, also did not discount the possibility of a new political alignment involving other parties, including those from PH.

On Friday, the state's menteri besar post was left vacant after the Perak assembly moved to oust Chenderian assemblyman Datuk Seri Ahmad Faizal Azumu after he lost a confidence vote. – The Vibes, December 6, 2020
