KUALA LUMPUR – Businessman Mohd Hussein Mohd Nasir, known as “Datuk Roy”, has been remanded for three days beginning today to assist the Malaysian Anti-Corruption Commission (MACC) in an investigation involving the Jana Wibawa initiative.

Magistrate Noorelynna Hanim Abd Halim ordered that the suspect be remanded until March 16, in accordance with the request by MACC today under Section 117 of the Criminal Procedure Code.

Hussein is represented by lawyer Fahmi Abd Moin, who said investigations for the corruption case are being conducted under Section 17(a) of the MACC Act, relating to bribery.

He added that whether Hussein will become a witness in the coming trials has yet to be determined.

Hussein, 54, was wanted by the MACC, before turning himself in yesterday.

He is believed to be the mastermind behind a corruption case – allegedly soliciting bribes amounting to RM400,000 to avoid investigating the Jana Wibawa programme, along with three other individuals.

Former prime minister Tan Sri Muhyiddin Yassin is a suspect in the MACC’s ongoing investigation into Jana Wibawa, which was launched during his tenure.

Former Bersatu information chief Datuk Wan Saiful Wan Jan was charged with soliciting and receiving bribes worth RM6.9 million to help a private firm secure a central spine road government contract worth RM232 million in 2022.

He and Segambut Bersatu deputy chief Adam Radlan Adam Muhammad are the first two individuals charged with corruption involving Jana Wibawa.

Datuk Teo Wee Cheng, a director of a furniture company, also faces nine charges of soliciting and accepting bribes amounting to RM12.87 million in connection with the scheme. – The Vibes, March 14, 2023
