KUALA LUMPUR – Former prime minister Datuk Seri Najib Razak today compared Datuk Seri Tengku Adnan Tengku Mansor’s discharge not amounting to acquittal (DNAA) to DAP secretary-general Lim Guan Eng’s dismissal.
“Even though Patriot didn’t speak out when Guan Eng was charged for receiving a bribe involving a RM7 million bungalow and released by then attorney-general Tommy Thomas, I still support Patriot’s demand for an explanation as to why Ku Nan’s case was dropped.”
Najib’s Facebook post came after the National Patriots’ Association’s media statement today, which had slammed Tengku Adnan’s DNAA order.
Patriot president Brig-Gen (rtd) Datuk Mohamed Arshad Raji slammed the prosecution for halting proceedings against Tengku Adnan, popularly known as Ku Nan, at the defence stage, saying it was “totally unacceptable”.
Najib asked similar questions about the “new developments” in the case, which the Malaysian Anti-Corruption Commission mentioned had resulted in the DNAA order.
He mentioned that in 2013, a businessman, who allegedly bribed Tengku Adnan, was charged in court.
“That time, the businessman pled not guilty and told the court that the monies were a political donation and not a bribe.
“Suddenly, the businessman changed his entire tone, pled guilty and was fined only RM1.5 million without a jail term by the judge (who also presided over my SRC International Sdn Bhd case). He then went from being an accused to a witness,” Najib said.
He added that the previous Pakatan Harapan administration sold a plot of land (RM45 per sq ft) in Iskandar Malaysia, Johor, to a company owned by the businessman’s family two months later.
Yesterday, the high court granted a DNAA to Tengku Adnan. However, a DNAA ruling still allows prosecutors to charge the accused in future.
The prosecution said that there are further developments, involving a witness, in the case that need to be investigated further. – The Vibes, December 8, 2020
