KOTA KINABALU – Sabah Electricity Sdn Bhd (SESB) has stationed six mobile generator sets at the state administrative building housing the Chief Minister’s Office at Menara Kinabalu, which has been out of power since Monday.

SESB senior general manager (assets management) Idris Mohd Noor said a damaged 33kV cable owned by SESB had initially caused the power failure at Menara Kinabalu and its adjacent areas – the Alam Mesra residential area and Likas.

While SESB had successfully restored power in the disrupted areas on the same day, the cable was damaged again late last night, causing a power failure only at Menara Kinabalu.

“Based on our technical team investigation, the 33kV cable was damaged due to an attempt to cut and steal the cable by unknown individuals.

“The second damage could be caused by the ongoing excavation work at the underground cable route.

“Repairs are underway and done in stages,” he said in a statement here today. – The Vibes, April 5, 2023
