KUALA LUMPUR – Nine individuals, including PKR’s former Merbok MP Nor Azrina Surip and ex-Petaling Jaya councillor Derek Fernandez, have been appointed members of the National Water Services Commission (SPAN).

The appointments were announced in a statement today, completing the commission’s line-up for the 2023-2025 term, after former chairman Charles Santiago was reappointed last month.

Other individuals appointed to the commission are former deputy secretary-general (water and sewerage service sector) Ching Thoo; former Maybank Investment Banking Group chief executive Datuk Hamidah Moris; former energy, green technology, and water secretary-general Datuk Loo Took Gee; and UTM Azman Hashim International Business School’s Assoc Prof Ahmad Jusoh.

They are also joined by Suhakam commissioner Muhammad Sha’ani Abdullah, HSS Engineers Bhd director and engineer Syed Mohamed Adnan Mansor Alhabshi, and engineer and former deputy director-general I of the Irrigation and Drainage Department Datuk Mohd Azmi Ismail.

Natural Resources, Environment, and Climate Change Minister Nik Nazmi Nik Ahmad said the commission has a big responsibility in restructuring the water sector to realise its Water Sector Transformation initiative.
