KUALA LUMPUR – Maybank Islamic Bhd today launched a new closed-ended investment account, Multi-Asset Investment Account-i (MAIA), which offers higher and stable returns of 4.25% per annum for a three-year placement.

In a statement today, the bank said MAIA aims to maximise investment returns by investing equally in its diversified portfolio of stable financing assets and Islamic marketable securities.

Maybank Islamic said the investment account is the first-of-its-kind to be offered by a bank in Malaysia and is targeting to reach RM250 million in investments.

"MAIA provides opportunities for investors with a medium- to long-term investment horizon, and is open to individuals and institutional investors with a minimum investment of RM10,000," it said.

Chief executive officer Datuk Mohamed Rafique Merican said MAIA will be able to meet the needs of investors seeking shariah investment options that aim to preserve capital while generating stable and relatively higher returns.

"The launch of MAIA is another milestone for us as we are the first Islamic bank to establish an investment product that offers investors the opportunity to invest in not just our stable financing assets but also in Islamic marketable securities."

Rafique said Maybank Islamic aims to assist its clients to navigate and grow their investments, especially those looking to potentially achieve income and capital growth by investing primarily in the financing portfolio. – Bernama, December 9, 2020
