KUALA LUMPUR – Kuala Lumpur City Hall (DBKL) may have had its fair share of ups and downs, but the same could not be said for its elevators in Menara DBKL, which were inoperable recently.

On November 30, DBKL staff were left to roam the ground floor of Menara DBKL due to an elevator service disruption.

“I was there for 20 to 30 minutes, and I saw the staff members outside on the ground floor as they were unable to go up,” Malaysian Public Service Association president Datuk P. Gunaseelan told The Vibes.

While every other Malaysian would have dreaded the idea of taking the stairs, Gunaseelan said that Kuala Lumpur Mayor Datuk Mahadi Che Ngah walked up 20 floors, and also gave instructions on the spot to rectify the issue.

“I was in the DBKL office to handle some matters for other people, and I saw that this datuk bandar was efficient and fast, probably due to the fact he was a town planner himself before.

“He immediately instructed his staff to work on the matter, and I believe the elevators were (soon) already functional,” Gunaseelan said.

The Vibes contacted a spokesman from DBKL who explained that the elevators itself were working, but the power supply was disrupted.

They managed to rectify the situation that day with backup generators, and staff members were able to return to their respective offices and work. – The Vibes, December 10, 2020
