IPOH – The Ipoh City Council is targeting 500,000 foreign tourists to visit the Perak capital by the end of this year in conjunction with the 2023 Visit Ipoh Year, said its mayor Datuk Rumaizi Baharin.

He said it is hoped that the target can be achieved, considering that by last April, some 50,000 foreign tourists had visited the city – a 10-fold increase compared to before the Covid-19 pandemic period.

“Before the pandemic, there were only about 4,600 foreign tourists visiting Ipoh.

“I am sure that more visitors will visit Ipoh by the end of this year,” he told reporters after attending the 40th Tourism Promotion Organisation for Asia-Pacific Cities Executive Committee, Regional Meeting and Joint Promotion Presentation here yesterday.

The meeting was the second one held in Ipoh after the first was held in 2015. – Bernama, May 12, 2023
