KUALA LUMPUR – A grand political pact involving Perikatan Nasional, Barisan Nasional and Gabungan Parti Sarawak has been mooted by PN secretary-general Datuk Seri Hamzah Zainudin ahead of the 15th general election.
In a Facebook post today, he said this grand coalition should be realised with a charter of political understanding among the three existing coalitions.
This will uphold the vision and aspirations of the political parties involved, he added.
“Moving forward, this political understanding should be maintained ahead of the 15th general election so Perikatan Nasional not only continues to head the federal government, but will succeed in taking over states under opposition rule.
“With this charter, the rakyat will feel more confident that the grand coalition will provide political stability and the ability to administer the country through policies that will ensure economic growth, nation-building and protect the people in the future.”
He said this being an inclusive pact, leader of the parties involved should be given space and opportunity to voice their opinions and views.
“Taking into consideration the demands of all parties, big or small, no matter which race and religion they represent, this grand coalition will be able to produce a manifesto that truly meets the needs of all levels of Malaysians.
“If all the leaders are truly sincere in determining a better future for the country, I’m confident that Malaysia will become a country its people can be proud of and respected by the world.”
This comes after a slew of meetings from Monday to Wednesday, involving the Umno Supreme Council, Barisan Nasional supreme council and Muafakat Nasional.
Rifts were also evident during the week-long Perak menteri besar crisis, where Bersatu deputy president Datuk Seri Ahmad Faizal Azumu lost his political office after an emergency confidence motion brought on by Umno and DAP.
Amid the crisis, Umno president and BN chairman Datuk Seri Ahmad Zahid Hamidi initially said it was open to new political alignments if PN could not form a state government.
Later, in a statement, he apologised for the ouster before confirming that Umno would form the state government with Bersatu and PAS.
