KUALA LUMPUR – A Perikatan Nasional backbencher has warned that Western understanding on human rights concepts should not be accepted in Malaysia as its proponents are believers in Darwin’s theory of evolution, which goes against Islamic theories on creationism.
Addressing the Dewan Rakyat today, Wan Ahmad Fayhsal Wan Ahmad Kamal (Machang-PN), who is also Bersatu Youth chief, said that recent Western narratives on the concept of humans themselves revolve around psychological theories based on “human behaviours, not so much their souls.”
“In the West today, their talks on the understanding of the human race are dominated by (concepts on how) humans are more like animals, according to the Darwinian evolution theory,” he said when debating the Human Rights Commission’s 2020 Annual Report in the Dewan Rakyat today.
“This contradicts the Islamic understanding of what constitutes a human, as Muslims believe that God created our spirit and body. This thinking has been rejected by Western scholars.”
As such, Wan Fayhsal suggested that in order for the government to take proper steps towards upholding human rights in the nation, it would first need to come to a consensus on how the term “human” is understood.
The opposition lawmaker addressed his comments to Syahredzan Johan (Bangi-PH), who had earlier said in his debate that human rights is a “universal” issue that is enshrined in the federal constitution.
Besides that, Wan Fayhsal also recommended that the august House emulate steps taken by the Russian government to curb the “spread” of elements associated with the LGBTQ movement through the passing of laws.
“Perhaps we could follow in the footsteps of the Russian Parliament which recently introduced an act that forbids the normalisation of unnatural intercourse, paedophilia, and any LGBTQ elements,” he said.
It is believed that Wan Fayhsal was referring to the Russian Parliament’s decision to pass a controversial law banning its citizens from promoting or “praising” homosexual relationships or publicly suggesting that they are “normal,” as reported by CNN.
It also prohibits “propaganda” on paedophilia and gender reassignment in advertising, books, and films.
Wan Fayhsal also took the opportunity to praise the Home Ministry for its confiscation of LGBTQ-themed Swatch watches, stating that such actions could be carried out easier if the necessary laws are amended to afford enforcement authorities the power to carry out their duties. – The Vibes, June 12, 2023
