MIRI – The office of the governor of Sarawak has lodged a police report regarding allegedly false claims about Tun Abdul Taib Mahmud’s ill health.

The police report was lodged today around noon by Taib’s press secretary, Peter Sibon, at the Kg Gita police station in Kuching.

The report requested that police investigate who created and circulated the false information about Taib’s health condition.

The report did not name any individuals or groups but merely urged police to probe the matter.

Yesterday, news that Taib was in serious ill health circulated widely via social media chatgroups.

At around 6pm, the office of the Sarawak head of state officially denied the rumours.

His private secretary, Junih Salleh Ahmad, said Taib is in good health.

“Astana Sarawak would like to assure all that Yang di-Pertua Tun Taib Mahmud is well and in good stead.

“We would like to assure you that all viral and unverified news on the wellbeing of Tun Taib that did not come from Astana Sarawak are fake and untrue,” he said in a press statement. – The Vibes, June 23, 2023
