KOTA KINABALU – Sabah’s unemployment rate has dropped to 7.7% although it is still the highest in Malaysia, Deputy Human Resources Minister Mustapha Sakmud.

“Sabah still has the highest unemployment in the country, surpassing the national average of 3.5%,” he said, after officiating the 2023 China Enterprises Career Fair at Universiti Malaysia Sabah here, today.

Citing figures from the Statistics Department, he said the state’s unemployment rate in 2021 was 9% or 188,300 people.

Mustapha said the drop in Sabah’s unemployment can be attributed to the entry of more companies and new businesses, resulting in new job opportunities, and urged locals to be “diligent” in finding these jobs. – The Vibes, July 7, 2023
