KOTA BARU – A meeting between the Malaysian Islamic Development Department (Jakim) and celebrity preachers will be held at the end of the month, said Deputy Minister in the Prime Minister’s Department (Religious Affairs) Ahmad Marzuk Shaary.

He said the meeting was to convey a message of harmony from the government, and to preserve the good name of religious groups and Islam.

He added that recent sensationalised issues have given Islam a bad image, even though only a few individuals are involved.

“The meeting aims to obtain relevant input, especially in the delivery of Islamic missions as a celebrity.

“We expect to gather this group of celebrity preachers at the end of December,”  he said at a contribution ceremony here today.

Marzuk said this when asked to comment on an issue involving an Islamic reality television programme participant, who has been charged with several sexual misconducts.

“Even if such a case is an isolated case, when it involves a preacher, it will definitely give Islam a bad name,” he said. – Bernama, December 12, 2020
