KOTA KINABALU – Warisan has set its sights on Peninsular Malaysia, aiming to bring its message of racial and religious harmony to a wider audience.
Party president Datuk Seri Mohd Shafie Apdal confirmed the plans today during its annual assembly here.
“We are confident we can contribute towards not only unity of races but also religious harmony in the country.”
He said there have been calls for the party to expand to the peninsula, including from allies in Pakatan Harapan (PH)
“There are up to 300,000 Sabahans there and many said they were unable to come back to vote. So they said it’s better for them if Warisan expands to the peninsula.”
Shafie said despite going national, there will be no conflict with PH and the party will still be using the Warisan name.
He added that Warisan’s constitution allows the party to set up branches in areas approved by the Election Commission (EC).
Shafie said they will be looking at areas with a sizable population of Sabahans – Johor and Selangor, among others.
He added that for almost 60 years, Sabah and Sarawak have been determinants of the country’s basic economic resources.
“Therefore, it is time for Sabah to not only be involved in negotiations, but leaders from Sabah need to have a decisive word in Malaysia.”
Earlier, Warisan youth chief Mohd Azis Jamman at the wing’s general assembly today said a lot of MPs were interested in the “unity vibe” Warisan presented.
“Members at the branch level have asked for the matter of expansion to be considered,” he said. – The Vibes, December 12, 2020
