LARUT – Titi Serong assemblyman Hasnul Zulkarnain Abdul Munaim’s Bersatu membership is on the line pending a probe on whether he supported the vote of confidence on the Perak menteri besar on December 4.
Bersatu secretary-general Datuk Seri Hamzah Zainudin, who is also Larut MP, said according to party constitution, any member found not toeing party line will automatically have his or her membership dropped.
“Maybe after this, Perak Umno will send evidence to us (that Hasnul did not support the motion). If it is proven, it automatically comes into effect. We have taken similar actions at the national level, there is no exception at division or state levels,” he told reporters here today.
Several news portals had quoted Hasnul as saying that he was waiting for a decision by Bersatu after being accused of rejecting the vote of confidence on Datuk Seri Ahmad Faizal Azumu as Perak menteri besar on December 4.
Hasnul joined Bersatu on June 3. Before that, he was an Independent assemblyman after leaving Amanah on March 9, following political realignment in Perak in the same month, which saw Perikatan Nasional taking over the administration from Pakatan Harapan.
Hamzah, in his article in a local daily, proposed a formal charter to symbolise the coalition of PN, Barisan Nasional and Gabungan Parti Sarawak (GPS) based on facts and declared stands.
“When I moot it, nobody can accuse me of raising issues like the small eating the big as there are responsibilities for each party to come together,” he said.
He was commenting on the reaction of Umno vice-president Datuk Seri Mohamed Khaled Nordin, who said establishing a coalition after another coalition is not necessary as it is only a survival strategy that harnesses strength from the support of the largest party.
Khaled said PN, BN and GPS must build their strength through the votes and mandate of the people in the general election. – Bernama, December 12, 2020
