KUALA LUMPUR – The government does not impose any restrictions or put up barriers on any state election candidates from using TV, radio or social media platforms during the campaign period.
The Communications and Digital Minister Fahmi Fadzil said the government welcomed the media to utilise their respective platforms to organise discussions and debates, as seen with Sinar Harian and Astro Awani.
In his view, Malaysia is a democratic country, and all parties should practice mature politics, including engaging in debates rather than resorting to mocking and hurling accusations.
“If any party wishes to hold debates like Sinar Harian, which actively organises discussions, and Astro Awani, which hosted a debate between Rafizi Ramli and Datuk Seri Mohamed Azmin Ali, this is very positive.
“All media are encouraged to participate and provide platforms for discussions and debates, rather than competing by resorting to accusations or mockery,” he said when speaking at the SMK Sg Pusu candidate nomination centre.
SMK Sg Pusu serves as the nomination centre for the constituencies of Sg Tua, Gombak Setia, and Hulu Kelang in Selangor. – The Vibes, July 29, 2023
