PETALING JAYA – It is no secret that MCA was not directly involved in the recent six-state elections with Barisan Nasional (BN) as the component party did not field a single candidate.
However, its president Datuk Seri Wee Ka Siong was hit with criticism after a clip of him attending Jacky Cheung’s Kuala Lumpur concert on the election results night (August 12) went viral.
On Twitter, the clip was shared with a remark made that Wee, a former minister, seemingly did not care about BN.
In the clip, a woman’s voice could be heard speaking in Cantonese as the camera followed Wee walking to his seat.
The woman said: “People are busy waiting for election results, he is watching a Jacky Cheung concert. Other people are busy cheering for their party but he is busy watching a concert. So, for him, it is better to just look at the results after the concert, correct?”

There were also questions about who he attended the concert with, as he was seen with a woman.
Responding to the claim, Wee shared a video on his official Facebook page, which also featured him singing a few bars of Jacky Cheung’s song.
In the short video, Wee addressed the “concern” raised about his concert date. He cheekily remarked that the woman in question was his “ex-girlfriend”.
He even joked, saying they can send the viral image of his concert date to his wife and tell her he said the ex-girlfriend is beautiful.
“She’ll definitely be happy,” Wee said.
For context, Wee was in fact talking about his wife when he used the term “ex-girlfriend” as they are married and she is no longer merely his “girlfriend”.
With regard to the election, Wee explained that there were no more campaigns as it was voting day, and the voting process concluded at 6pm. This meant he had the right to be at the concert while the vote-counting process was taking place.
