PETALING JAYA – Deputy Youth and Sports Minister Adam Adli has taken to Facebook to defend the unity government from two opposition MPs.

Muar MP Syed Saddiq Syed Abdul Rahman called the government “Nato – no action, talk only” while Machang MP Wan Fayhsal Wan Ahmad Kamal accused the government of practising “pork barrel politics”.

Adam noted that Syed Saddiq’s criticism came just days after the latter left the unity government.

“Both have sat together and separately in the government. Wan Fayhsal was Syed Saddiq’s special officer when he was youth and sports minister. After the Sheraton Move, Wan Fayhsal himself was made deputy youth and sports minister after stabbing Syed Saddiq in the back. I’m confident both have made nice today. Alhamdulillah,” Adam said.

Addressing Syed Saddiq’s criticism, Adam said these issues have been explained, be it inside and outside Parliament.

Syed Saddiq had called the government “Nato” over its allocation to opposition MPs, lack of asset declaration by cabinet ministers, and the “dismissal” of corruption cases.

Adam explained that Prime Minister Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim had called for a more transparent and comprehensive mechanism for asset declaration so it would not be done in a dramatic and gimmicky manner the way it previously was.

On the matter of Deputy Prime Minister Datuk Seri Ahmad Zahid Hamidi’s discharge not amounting to an acquittal (DNAA), Adam said the matter had been detailed in Parliament by Datuk Seri Azalina Othman Said.

“In fact, the DPM’s DNAA issue has been brought to the attention of the parliamentary select committee and will be answered by the PM himself in Parliament tomorrow (today).”

On the matter of allocation, Adam said the opposition had been reminded many times to discuss the matter with the government, instead they prefer arguing about it in the Dewan Rakyat.

“I’m wondering, how about the allocation for Muar who was once in the government block. Has it been fully spent or how?” Adam asked.

Adam then asked Syed Saddiq to look at all the well-being policies that the government presented in the 2023 Budget instead of labelling the government as “no action, talk only” by only focusing on certain issues.

Adam then said that he was baffled by Wan Fayhsal’s “pork barrel politics” criticism as Machang had received a sizeable allocation of RM1.44 billion for basic infrastructure, including for the construction of roads and bridges.

“I asked myself, does this pork barrel politics take into account the amount of ‘oil barrels’ owned by the children of Perikatan Nasional (PN) leaders,” Adam said. – The Vibes, September 19, 2023
