MIRI – Police have arrested a mother and son at a squatter resettlement scheme in the outskirts of Miri for allegedly turning their home into a drug trafficking base.

The mother, aged 60 and her son, 39, were arrested by anti-narcotics police during a raid at the Tudan residential area yesterday, said Miri police chief Alexson Naga Chabu.

“The woman and her son are suspected of being involved in drug-trafficking activities and were arrested inside their house during the raid.

“The raiding team found plastic bags containing substances believed to be syabu drugs,” he said.

The duo were remanded today for seven days pending further investigations.

“The case has been classified as drug trafficking under Section 39B of Dangerous Drugs Act 1952,” he said in a press statement.

Naga said the drugs seized are estimated to be worth about RM58,000 in the market.

The raiding team also confiscated some RM89,000 worth of cash, jewellery, a motorcycle and other personal items.

The Tudan residential estates are home to numerous squatter resettlement schemes.
