PETALING JAYA – In what is possibly the first case of an electric vehicle going up in flames in Malaysia, a Tesla Model Y caught fire in Puchong.

The incident was confirmed by the Selangor Fire and Rescue Department which said a seven man team was deployed from the Puchong station.

The incident happened yesterday at 8.32pm along Jalan Puchong Jaya while the vehicle was parked. There were no passengers inside.

According to a report by Awani, the vehicle was 70% destroyed by the time firemen arrived.

The driver was believed to have been having dinner when the car caught fire.

The matter has been handed over to the Fire and Rescue Department’s forensic division for further investigation.

It is not yet known what caused the fire.

Local purchases of the Tesla Model Y have yet to be delivered as the company said delivery will only begin early 2024. – The Vibes, October 17, 2023
