KUCHING – A special investigation team is being set up by police in the state capital to recommend an inquest into the recent death of a female university student at an entertainment joint in the city centre.
Kuching district police chief Ahsmon Bajah today said the death of the 22-year-old student will be investigated from all possible angles.
The student was found unconscious around 3.30am at the entertainment centre on October 16 and was pronounced dead by hospital medics upon being rushed into the Sarawak General Hospital.
The Kuching police had a few days later subsequently pronounced that the case was one of sudden death.
Yesterday, the family members of the deceased went to see Sarawak DAP chairman Chong Chien Jen to express their worries and disappointment on how the death was being investigated.
Chong, who is Stampin MP, said police must carry out a more thorough probe, as there were traces of drugs found in the blood of the deceased.
Today, Bajah issued a statement and said police will form a special unit to again investigate the incident.
“The special team set up will investigate the death from all angles and all aspects and study all the possibilities.
“Upon conclusion of the special probe, a report will be submitted to the Sarawak Attorney-General’s Chambers to recommend an inquest to be carried out,” he said.
The place where the incident happened is located in the Petanak commercial centre in the heart of Kuching city.
Aside from Sarawak DAP, Sarawak Muda had also expressed concerns that drugs were found in the samples taken from the deceased's body.
Bajah today called on those among the public with information about the incident not to spread it on social media but to report it to the nearest police station. – The Vibes, October 27, 2023
