THE Malaysia Basketball Association (Maba) is on track to become self-sustainable in future following its plans to enter a joint venture with Exsim Development Sdn Bhd.
According to its newly re-elected president Datuk Seri Lee Tian Hock, this joint venture project which involves the purchasing of certain units worth RM120 million is expected to yield an annual revenue of between RM5 - RM7 million.
“This will help ensure we have no financial worries for future endeavours and also plan to support affiliates in building their own basketball stadium.
“We are also promoting in-depth training programmes, including overseas coaching courses for retiring national players,” he said at Maba’s recent AGM in Kuala Lumpur.
Lee said the leagues, including MBL and U20/U23 development leagues were being perfected with both male and female categories to fill gaps in the age groups.
“Unity and effort are crucial and the newly elected team must stay true to their principles, striving to achieve our goals without distraction.
“We will continue to enhance basketball’s influence and competitiveness in Malaysia, creating more opportunities for the younger generation,” he said.
Lee also said that Maba was planning to amend its constitution to ensure presidential council members fulfil their duties and ensure smooth operations.
