THE Football Association of Malaysia (FAM) has suspended its secretary-general, Datuk Noor Azman Rahman, with immediate effect to allow an independent committee to address recent FIFA sanctions against the association and seven naturalised players.

This was announced by FAM Deputy President, Datuk S. Sivasundaram, who recounted the chronology of the long case currently taking place involving the parent body and 7 Harimau Malaya heritage players.

“The secretary-general will be suspended of his duties effective today in order to allow the committee to carry out its duties,” he told a press conference at Wisma FAM.

The suspension is a result of FIFA sanctioning FAM over incomplete documentation for seven naturalised Harimau Malaya players, ruling them ineligible.

As a consequence, Malaysia's results in recent World Cup qualifiers were forfeited.

Noor Azman previously said the dispute stemmed from a “technical error” in the process of submitting documents carried out by FAM administrative staff.

FAM has filed an appeal with FIFA and launched an internal probe to determine how the administrative lapse occurred. – October 17, 2025
