KOTA KINABALU - The Sabah FC senior team has not received its salaries for three months while the coaching staff for four months, according to reports.
According to SabahRhinos.com, a twitter account dedicated to the Sabah football team, state players boycotted yesterday's training session over the issue.
"New LED board, the dressing room has been upgraded, the stadium has been improved, benches (for the stadium) have been replaced, but players salaries have not been paid, how?" said SabahRhinos.
Sabah FC head coach Kurniawan Dwi Yulianto and other coaches have also been working without salaries for the past four months.
However, the Sabah FC official twitter page makes no mention about the financial woes faced by the state's senior team.
The team is expected to meet Penang FC this Sunday.
Financial constraints are nothing new to the state football team. The football association had previously borrowed from a private individual to resolve a similar issue some years ago.
However, such issues were not a problem during the time of the Warisan Plus government when the side was headed by controversial figure, Datuk Peter Anthony, who was the then Sabah Football Association (Safa) president.
Sabah Deputy Chief Minister Datuk Seri Bung Moktar is the current president, a position he took over quite dramatically in December last year.
Businessman Datuk Verdon Bahanda was told to resign as the Chief Executive Officer of Sabah FC Sdn Bhd just five weeks following Bung's appointment as Safa interim president last year.
This came after Bahanda had bought over 70% of shares from the Sabah FC Sdn Bhd.
Bahanda was replaced by Firdaus Akbar Khan while Marzuki Nasir was named team manager following Bung's appointment as president.
