I love doing things for others. I have always been the 1st one to volunteer to help teachers in school carrying books - you know that girl that other girls roll their eyes at? Yup! That was me. I am always thinking of what's going to happen next, and being in TV production for many years made me a major thinker of damage controls.

I had bad anxieties 2 years ago and I saw a psychiatrist, and he gave me meds. For some, that might have worked, but I got worse. I became too dependent on the meds to function. For 3 months I lived like a zombie. I could not sleep, I was sweating so much, I had heart palpitations, I stayed home most of the time and I didn't want any friends over.

It was a terrible time for me. I would be so angry at myself for not being able to sleep and for being tired most of the time. I told my doctor that I wanted to stop my meds and just go back to yoga. He helped me through it and I resumed my yoga journey with YIN yoga.

Yin yoga is a slow-paced style of yoga (something unfamiliar to me as I was always practising the fast crazy flows) with postures that are held for longer periods of time than in other styles. Yin yoga stretches and targets both the deep connective tissues between the muscles and the fascia throughout the body.

The aim is to increase circulation in the joints and improve flexibility. Yin yoga can be calming for both the body and the mind. Specifically, yin yoga poses support the joints through a process of detoxification. Yin yoga poses are traditionally held for 3 to 5 minutes.

While the poses are held, the joint system is being stretched and this is great for anxiety. I learned how to just slow down and take time to myself, for myself. I got better just after a week of doing these poses that I would like to share them with you in my video. So go ahead, be selfish. Think of yourself first. You will treat others so much better when you are better. As cheesy as this may sound, the world will be a better place too.
