FAM-Milo collaboration aimed at enhancing football at grassroots level

KUALA LUMPUR − The Football Association of Malaysia (FAM) hope to further enhance the development of the sport at the grassroots level through cooperation with household brand Milo.

FAM president Datuk Hamidin Mohd Amin said that through the collaboration, both parties would expand the sport through emphasis on grassroots development and basic coaching.

He said that through the five-year collaboration until 2026, FAM planned to have about 800 academies and 100,000 players nationwide compared to 10,000 registered players in 122 academies under the FAM SupaRimau Charter at present.

“As everyone knows, grassroots football is the key to the future. The children of today are the stars of the future. Just like during the 80s and 90s, FAM and Milo are planting the seeds for the future by providing a platform for youngsters to showcase their talents.

“We also cannot neglect the coaches. They are the ones who gather and train these talents. Now, we have over 1,000 coaches and we hope that through coaching courses, this number can be increased to 5,000 by 2026,” he said at the virtual launching of the MILOxFAM today. 

Meanwhile, Nestlé Malaysia Berhad Milo Business Unit business executive officer Ng Su Yen said the main objective of the collaboration was to create an integrated grassroots football development ecosystem with early basic skills exposure for the next generation.

“We will hold coaching workshops aimed at preparing the coaches professionally with knowledge and technique to guide the children.

“The children coaching workshop is to develop a child’s basic skills from a very young age, either through community grassroots sports or SupaRimau football clinics,” she said. – Bernama, December 14, 2021
