KUALA LUMPUR – Former Selangor FC senior defender Muhammad Syahmi Safari is the latest player to join 2021 Super League champions, Johor Darul Ta’zim (JDT).

Syahmi admitted that it was difficult to say no to the offer from JDT which he described as the biggest club in Malaysia at the moment.

“There is only one destination in Malaysian football, Johor Darul Ta’zim, and I am here now.

“This is a challenge, a challenge for me to move forward and achieve success as a football player,” he said in a one-minute video uploaded on JDT’s official Instagram page today.

“Welcome to the Home of Champions! #NewSigning #WhereChampionsAreMade #LuaskanKuasamuJohor,” the “officialjohor” account trumpeted.

In the video, Syahmi, who looked smart in a dark suit and made a walkabout at the Sultan Ibrahim Stadium in Iskandar Puteri, also showed his jersey with the number 91.

The 23-year-old had played for Harimau Malaya (national squad) at the AFF 2020 Cup in Singapore, last month.

Despite often playing in the right-back position, the Kuala Selangor-born player was the preferred choice of former national squad head coach Tan Cheng Hoe to play on the left following the absence of La’Vere Corbin-Ong who frequently played in that position. – Bernama, January 14, 2022
