KUALA LUMPUR – Simple errors made by their opponent, Joel Eipe-Daniel Lundgaard had made it easy for national men’s doubles duo, Goh Sze Fei-Nur Izzuddin Rumsani to storm into the last eight of the German Open 2022, last night.
Not only that, Nur Izzuddin was pleased to see that their attacking display from the moment they kickstarted the game borne fruit which led the Dane pair to give away free points to the Malaysian pair after committing a flurry of mistakes in the second round match held at the Westenergie Sporthalle in Muelheim An Der Ruhr.
“We kept attacking and pressuring them from the start which prompted them to make so many simple mistakes and made our game plan successful,” he said in a short video shared with the media today.
Sze Fei-Nur Izzuddin, ranked 17th in the world, took 32 minutes to eliminate Joel-Daniel, 21-13, 21-14.
However, a difficult journey awaits the unseeded duo next as they will be up against sixth seeds pair, Ong Yew Sin-Teo Ee Yi in the all-Malaysian affair today.
Yew Sin-Ee Yi had to huff and puff to earn the quarter-finals spot yesterday, as they survived a tense rubber set battle against England’s Ben Lane-Sean Vendy, 21-15, 14-21, 21-17.
Commenting on today’s match, Nur Izzuddin hoped that they will be mentally and physically ready to reach the semi-final stage tomorrow.
Meanwhile, two more Malaysian representatives, mixed doubles pair Tan Kian Meng-Lai Pei Jing and women’s doubles, Vivian Hoo-Lim Chiew Sien also through into the quarter-finals.
Kian Meng-Pei Jing swept past Gregory Mairs-Jenny Moore of England, 21-16, 10-21, 21-18 to set up a tie against first seed Dechapol Puavaranukroh-Sapsiree Taerattanachai after the Thai pair drubbed home duo, Jones Ralfy Jansen-Linda Efler, 21-10, 21-15.
In the meantime, Vivian-Chiew Sen defeated Scottish pair, Julie Macpherson-Ciara Torrance, 21-14, 19-21, 21-16.
Vivian-Chiew Sien will determine the last four place against first seed, Chen Qing Chen-Jia Yi Fan after the Chinese pair posted a straight-set win over Treesa Jolly-Gayatri Gopichand Pullela from India, 21-16, 21-12. – Bernama, March 11, 2022
